Miranda Kalgovas (Classical Ballet)
Miranda Kalgovas first taught Classical Ballet in Croydon for 3 years as a Cecchetti Student Teacher. As well as teaching for Box Hill City Ballet School she opened her own school in Mooroolbark in 1975 (now called Stage Presence and owned by her previous student Lauren Blackwell.)
She studied with Jill Glastonbury, Athol Willoughby, William Carse and Rhyl Kennell to first gain her Associate Qualification and later her Licentiate of Cecchetti Ballet Australia and Cecchetti Ballet International. Her students have gained places in the Australian Ballet School, the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary and Tertiary levels, Box Hill TAFE Dance/Teaching Diploma, the Australian Ballet’s ITP program. From there some have progressed into various dance schools, companies and teaching facilities worldwide including the Joffrey Ballet in America and “Chunky Move Contemporary Dance” where her student Luke Smiles was a founding member.
Miss Miranda’s interests and studies have included graphic design, fine art, photography and dressmaking. She graduated from Swinburne with a Diploma of Costume Design and has received awards for her designs for musical theatre.
Previously a member on the Victorian Cecchetti Committee she now continues to use her vast experience to encourage, train and advance students of all ages. Miss Miranda currently travels from Melbourne twice a week to teach with us at Bass Coast Ballet School. She is passionate about correct technical training, safe dance practices and developing a sense of joy and imagination in her students. Miss Miranda teaches Cecchetti Grades 1 to Advanced as well as a fabulous Adult Ballet class in Wonthaggi.
In 2013 Miss Miranda received a Life Membership Award from Cecchetti Ballet Australia in recognition of her dedication and commitment to the teaching of Classical Ballet. An honour indeed.
